Overview

The Roost Restaurant, nestled at 181 County Rd 539 in Cream Ridge, NJ, offers a refreshing take on the classic bar and grill experience. This spot, located on a golf course, blends a welcoming atmosphere with a menu that balances comfort and creativity. It’s a place where hearty, well-executed dishes meet a relaxed setting, catering both to families and casual diners looking for quality food without fuss.

Their menu stands out for its variety and freshness. Signature items like the Fish Tacos accompanied by sweet potato fries deliver vibrant flavors with a satisfying crunch, while the Farmhouse Burger and Cajun Steak Bites provide robust, savory meals for those craving richer tastes. Sandwich lovers will appreciate options like the House Chicken Sandwich or the Chicken Parm Sandwich, both layered with generous ingredients. For those seeking something sweet, the Peanut Butter Explosion promises an indulgent finish, contrasting nicely with the savory offerings. The inclusion of an Irish Coffee also shows a thoughtful nod to finishing the meal with classic comfort.

The Roost has embraced a family-friendly approach as well. The kids’ menu offers familiar favorites such as cheeseburgers, linguini, mozzarella sticks, and grilled cheese sandwiches, all portioned to satisfy younger appetites and reasonably priced. This makes it an ideal stop for families seeking a casual, welcoming environment.

Atmospherically, the restaurant is designed to feel open and airy, with large windows ensuring plenty of natural light and an inviting view of the surrounding landscape. The space features a lively energy, bolstered by live music on select evenings and multiple TVs tuned to sports, setting an engaging backdrop for gatherings. However, some visitors have noted the temperature control can lean toward the chilly side, particularly during warmer months, which may affect comfort during longer visits.

Service consistently earns praise for courtesy and efficiency. Staff members like Jacob and Jasmine have been highlighted for their friendliness and attentiveness, adding a personal touch that enhances the dining experience. That said, there have been occasional remarks about the frequency of drink refills and how often servers check in during a meal, reflecting small areas for improvement in hospitality flow.

One aspect that deserves attention is the presence of flies reported by some patrons. While this could be a seasonal challenge, it’s a point that impacts the overall dining comfort and raises questions about pest control measures. Addressing this would certainly polish The Roost’s inviting ambiance and reinforce its commitment to an exceptional guest experience.

The Roost caters to a diverse audience, from golfers stopping by after a round to families enjoying a weekend meal, and groups looking for a lively yet casual spot. The menu’s combination of fresh salads, inventive appetizers like the “Goat in a Coat,” and hearty entrees supports a broad range of tastes and dietary preferences. Whether you’re drawn by the well-crafted burgers, the distinctive fish tacos, or the cozy atmosphere paired with live music, The Roost offers an approachable yet memorable dining destination in Cream Ridge.

Ultimately, The Roost Restaurant shines through its flavorful dishes, warm service, and engaging environment. It strikes a balance between casual charm and culinary care—inviting guests to return again and again, whether on or off the golf course.

The Roost is a very good restaurant on a golf course. There are lots of fresh and tasty options on the menu. I ordered a salad with grilled salmon on top. The greens were crispy and fresh and chopped up to a good size. It came with a huge portion of avocado. Plentiful tomatoes and cucumbers too. And on the side was a big scoop of perfectly cooked chopped bacon pieces, adding a great amount of flavor to the dish. The egg in the salad was sliced, which made it annoying to pop the yolk out of (I'd rather have the hard boiled egg just be cut in half for easier scooping). The ranch dressing was really tasty too. Service was good. Our order was taken quickly and the food and water were brought out in a good amount of time. However I don't feel we were checked on enough, and we could have used refills on our drinks more often than we got them. The atmosphere was the problem for us overall. The positives included good music playing, plenty of TV's with sports (although too many were on the golf channel when there wasn't any golf tournament going on), and a very open floor plan with a great view through all the windows. One downside we felt (and also heard from a few patrons when they walked in) was that it was quite cold inside. Granted, it was in the 90s outside and it was a nice respite from the heat, but the thermostat was turned down a bit too much. The biggest atmospheric downside: the flies. As soon as our food arrived, we were visited by 4 or 5 flies who just wouldn't leave us alone. There was just no way to get them to go away until our food was finished and cleared. And even before then, one fly ended up landing in my salad and getting stuck in the dressing, which was gross, but at least we could eliminate that one from flying all over us at our table. I get it that flies are attracted to food, but they also must be signs of unsanitary conditions in the restaurant somewhere. There's got to be a way to take care of this problem. Overall, the salad choices at The Roost are wonderful. There were no complaints about the taste or freshness of the food we both ordered at the table. My dining partner especially liked the sweet potato fries. I had one and I agreed! The food alone is enough to make us want to come back to this restaurant, even if you don't golf. But bring a fan or a swatter to keep those flies away from your food!

This was our first visit. We were there for my cousin's birthday. It was lovely! I ordered the summer berry salad and my boyfriend ordered the Red Eye burger. Both were delicious! The service was prompt and courteous. There was live music, which made it all the better. Highly recommend!

We were all pleasantly surprised. We came here a few years ago and it wasn’t very memorable. This time everyone enjoyed their meals. From the Build Your Own Pasta to The Roost Cheesesteak. We will definitely be back. And it was very economical.

Visited Holland ridge farms then stopped here for a quick bite. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was cozy. Started with appetizers (spinach and artichoke dip and fried goat cheese AMAZING!!!!) which were devoured quickly. I got the French onion soup which was good but I didn't care for the cheese on top. Seemed a little different than other French onions I've had but it was still delicious. My husband got a burger which he finished! My son got a kids burger and it was huge and the price was great. My daughter got a salad, it was huge for a side salad and again the price, phenomenal! Would recommend this restaurant to others.

Restaurant and bar at a Golf Club, but still very enjoyable. Food was great and Melissa are server took good care of us. Our room (banquet) was a little sparse on atmosphere, but definitely recommend for a nice but casual dinner.

The food was excellent. I got the steak sandwich. It was cooked perfectly. The fries were also very good. They also have a traditional cheesteak that I will try next time but for a few dollars more this was a nice different kind of "cheesteak" to try. Being made with garlic bread was a nice touch as well. I would definitely come back for this.
